MERCERSBURG, PA – Whitetail Resort has recently chosen eight outstanding candidates to receive the 12th annual Whitetail Resort Employee Scholarship, promoting higher education. Seven candidates received scholarships of $500 each, and one candidate received the fourth annual Whitetail Resort - Oscar Weller Memorial Employee Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Recipients are students who were employees in good standing for the 2013-2014 season at Whitetail Resort. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, and Whitetail’s own STEEP values which stand for Safety, Teamwork, Efficiency, Enthusiasm, and Professionalism. Each applicant must also maintain an appropriate grade level, participate in extracurricular activities, and provide adequate references.
This year’s list of recipients includes six local high school students. These seniors are: Amber Zeis, and Carly Jamison of James Buchanan High School; Brittany Yost, and Jacob Sherman of Clear Spring High School; Caitlyn Hetrick of Greencastle Antrim High School; and Graham Schuman of Littlestown Senior High School. Each recipient was awarded the $500 scholarship at their respective high school award ceremonies.
One local college student, Timothy McCartney Jr of University of Maryland was also awarded the $500 scholarship. This year’s recipient of the $1,000 Whitetail Resort-Oscar Weller Memorial Employee Scholarship is Kayla Hartung of James Buchanan High School. This scholarship is in honor of Oscar Weller, a valued employee who worked at Whitetail Resort for six years in the snowmaking department and Golf Operations. It recognizes his commitment to our organization, his dedication to our community, and thirst for knowledge in all that he pursued.
