Whitetail Resort To Host 13th Annual Great Outdoors Festival On October 26 And 27

MERCERSBURG, PA – Whitetail Resort is busy preparing for the 13th Annual Great Outdoors Festival which will be held at the resort on October 26-27 from 10 am until 5 pm.  The resort will be hosting a number of craft and food vendors from the region, as well as organizations such as the Penn State Mont Alto Timber Sports Team, The Franklin County 4-H Seeing Eye Puppy Club and the 4-H Horse and Pony Club, plus Apple Butter Making by local Boy Scout Troop 95 from Shady Grove, PA.

We have two new additions to the festival this year for Saturday’s line-up. Our 1st Annual Harvest Huck Jam is a pre-season rail jam competition that will begin at 11:00 am. Registration starts at 9:00 am. The jam will consist of two features and each participant will be entered in a drawing to win a 2013-2014 Season Pass. Also new this year on Saturday is our Antique Car & Truck Show. Registration is from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. Trophies and dash plaques will be awarded.

On Sunday, October 27th we will host our 2nd Annual Whitetail Resort Fall Downhill 5-K Trail Run which begins at 9:30 am. Sponsored by Meritus Health, this challenging course is set on the Whitetail Mountain and includes both uphill and downhill terrain.  Entrants receive a free Tech T-shirt as well as free admission to the Great Outdoors Festival. All participants must be registered and at the resort by 9:00 am.

Other highlights of the weekend include chairlift rides, pie and ice cream eating contests, kid’s entertainment and activities, snowmaking tours, paintball, archery, a petting zoo, and a climbing wall.  Musical entertainment on Saturday, October 26 will feature the old time homegrown Appalachian Bluegrass sounds of The Hillbilly Gypsies from WV.  Sunday will feature the great combination of American folk traditions with modern indie rock, preformed by the incredibly talented duo from Mercersburg, PA, The Hello Strangers.

The cost of admission to the festival is $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for kids aged 6-12 and seniors.  Admission is free for kids aged 5 and under.  Any person who comes to the festival to pick up or purchase a winter season Season Pass or Advantage Card will also receive free admission to the festival.  The festival marks the last weekend of the Season Pass and Advantage Card Early Bird Sale which ends on October 31.
