Shawnee on Delaware, PA- The installation of Pennsylvania’s newest high-speed detachable lift is the center of attention at Shawnee Mountain this fall as the ski area spends over $5 million on capital improvements for the coming 2010-11 winter sports season.

NEW Tomahawk Express Quad

Manufactured by Doppelmayer CTEC USA, the new detachable quad will serve as Shawnee’s flag ship lift centrally located along the Tomahawk trail and replace its fixed grip quad lift which is being relocated to the Arrowhead trail.  The new Tomahawk Express will whisk skiers and riders 3100’ to the summit in just 3 minutes.  Despite its high speed, 1000 feet per minute, the new detachable quad is designed to be very child and ski school friendly with a slow 225 feet per minute load and unload speed.  Each of the detachable 4 person chairs will have rear slanting seats.  The new Tomahawk Express Quad will transport 2,400 skiers/riders per hour.

Summit Lodge Renovations

Perched at the top of Shawnee Mountain, the rustic Summit Lodge serves as a destination dormitory for groups as well as a day lodge for skiers and riders.  For this winter, the outside façade will see a complete face lift and include new siding, windows and doors.  New outdoor decks will overlook the mountain trails and provide a perfect view of the new Tomahawk Express Quad’s top terminal.  Inside the Summit Lodge you’ll find all new flooring in the common areas.  A new stone, gas fireplace will be installed along with a new bar which will also provide a great slope side view.

Additional Automated Snowmaking

In an effort to increase its snowmaking efficiency and productivity, Shawnee Mountain has automated two additional ski trails, the Kitattiny and Bennekill, with over a mile of new air and water pipelines and 46 computer controlled self-adjusting tower snow guns.  An additional mile of new air and water pipelines have also been installed on the popular mile long Pennsylvania trail in anticipation of its future snowmaking automation.

Family Locker Room with Go Pod Lockers

The men’s and ladies’ locker rooms next to Guest Services have been opened, refurbished and combined into one larger Family Locker Room.  Along with new bench seating, changing stalls and a diaper changing area, over 150 new electronic Go Pod Lockers will be installed in 2 different sizes.

Shawnee Mountain is located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania just off Exit 309 of Interstate 80.  General information call 570-421-7231.  For lodging information, call 888-VILLA4U (townhomes and chateaus), 800-SHAWNEE (Shawnee Inn), or 800-POCONOS (visitors bureau).  Or visit Shawnee Mountain on-line at www.shawneemt.com.
